Oral Cancer KILLS One American EVERY HOUR of EVERY DAY...
Traditional factors such as smoking or tobacco use are no longer the only considerations when determining oral cancer risk. This disease has changed, and the risk of death from oral cancer is now higher than breast cancer, Hodgkin's lymphoma and skin cancer. This is why our team is dedicated to providing Oral Cancer Screenings at each of your preventative appointments. We understand that Oral Cancer is the leading cause of deaths related to cancer. We don't want that to happen to you!
Along with the visual exam provided by the hygienist and doctor during regular dental check-ups, we have also invested in the Velscope Screening Tool and the OralID Screening Tool. These tools allow us to see potential abnormalities in your mouth long before they are visible by the human eye. Any suspicious looking area is charted, addressed and then we will recommend the proper course of action for you. We highly recommend and suggest that you be screened using the Velscope at least once a year. Early detection is a key factor for surviving and treating Oral Cancer. Please, don't take this lightly. It is a matter of LIFE OR DEATH!

According to the Oral Cancer Foundation:
"Close to 43,250 Americans will be diagnosed with oral or pharyngeal cancer this year. It will cause over 8,000 deaths, killing roughly 1 person per hour, 24 hours per day. Of those 43,250 newly diagnosed individuals, only slightly more than half will be alive in 5 years. (Approximately 57%) This is a number which has not significantly improved in decades. The death rate for oral cancer is higher than that of cancers which we hear about routinely such as cervical cancer, Hodgkin's lymphoma, laryngeal cancer, cancer of the testes, and endocrine system cancers such as thyroid, or skin cancer (malignant melanoma). If you expand the definition of oral cancers to include cancer of the larynx, for which the risk factors are the same, the numbers of diagnosed cases grow to approximately 54,000 individuals, and 13,500 deaths per year in the U.S. alone. Worldwide the problem is much greater, with over 640,000 new cases being found each year."
