Byron Wilfong
Dr. Byron Wilfong, a native of Clarksburg, attended undergraduate and dental school at WVU after years of waiting to emulate his father, also a dentist. After graduation from dental school, he and his wife, Barbara, moved to Frederick, Maryland, a town located outside of Washington, D.C. While in Maryland, Dr. Wilfong took part in a yearlong fellowship that focused on endodontics (root canals), oral surgery, and aesthetic dentistry.
In 1997, the opportunity became available to move back to his hometown and practice dentistry with Wilson Martino Dental. As for the office motto, "We Cater to Cowards," Dr. Wilfong interprets it as being a testament to how the dentists utilize the very latest techniques and technology for their patient's benefit.
"The nice thing about my work is that there is no typical day for me. I do all phases of dentistry-first a root canal, then a porcelain crown, then some tooth-colored fillings. I enjoy not being stuck doing the same exact thing day in and day out."
Dr. Wilfong confessed that if he does have one favorite aspect of his job it has to be aesthetic dentistry. This involves changing the color, shape and size of patients' teeth to improve their appearance and self-image. Porcelain crowns and veneers as well as 0rthodontics can all accomplish a great end result.
Dr. Wilfong has been married for 9 years and has two children. He is a member of the American Dental Association and the American Orthodontic Society, and is a past Vice President of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternal organization. He enjoys participating in all sports and is thrilled to be in West Virginia practicing dentistry.
